Pear 'Williams'

This compact pear tree is ideal for smaller gardens. It produces a crop of deliciously sweet and juicy pears ready to harvest from August. You’ll know the pears are ripe when the skin colour changes from green to golden yellow. Williams pears are popular for their sweet flavour and can be enjoyed fresh from the tree or cooked in desserts.

In spring, before the fruit begins to form, the tree is covered with small white five-petalled flowers. The delicate blossom lasts through April and May before falling to make way for the pears to grow. Glossy green leaves turn glorious shades of gold, bronze and crimson in autumn, providing dramatic colour interest.

Williams pear trees are easy to grow and don’t demand much attention to thrive. They are hardy against cold winter temperatures and only need watered during particularly dry spells. Prune in winter to remove any dead or damaged branches before the tree bursts back into life in spring.
