Pear 'Beurré Hardy'

£144.00

'Beurré Hardy' pears are renowned for their excellent flavour and are particularly well-suited to eating fresh, though they can also be enjoyed cooked in desserts. The flesh is tender, juicy and refreshing with a slight rosewater flavour. The fruits are cone-shaped with green skin russeted in brown. Don’t worry if some developing fruit falls off the tree in summer, this is completely normal and helps prevent the branches from becoming overloaded.

Before the pears begin to appear, the tree is covered with racemes of delicate white five-petalled flowers in spring. The ovate to elliptic leaves are a glossy dark green hue, turning red as the seasons change in autumn.

'Beurré Hardy' pear trees are easy to grow and are well-suited to container gardening. These small fruit trees are hardy enough to withstand UK winter temperatures, but those grown in pots may need some added insulation to protect against frost damage.

This pear tree variety produces a reliable crop year after year. The juicy pears can be harvested from mid-late September to finish ripening indoors if required.

Plant your new fruit tree in a sunny sheltered spot out of strong winds. Prune in winter to remove dead or damaged branches. Ensure the soil is moist with excellent drainage - a clay, loam or sand based soil with a neutral pH is ideal.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
