White Christmas Cactus

Whether you’re looking for a fabulous Christmas gift for the person who has everything or simply fancy brightening up your own home over the greyest months of the year, you can’t go far wrong with a Christmas Cactus house plant. Christmas Cactus plants are succulent plants with long, flat stems acting as foliage, providing interest all year round. From November these stems are decorated with pink buds that open out into dainty white flowers that last throughout the winter months.

Also known by the botanical name Schlumbergera, these real plants stand out among other Christmas plants and flowers due to being so easy to care for. They tolerate weeks of neglect, looking their best again after watering. For the best show of flowers, keep the plant in a warm room out of direct sunlight during the summer and winter months. From autumn, and again after flowering, move the plant to a cooler spot and water more sparingly. Doing this helps encourage more flower buds to form.

Despite being succulent plants, these tropical plants are native to rainforests and so prefer a more humid environment. This quirk makes them excellent bathroom plants, but you can mimic their natural habitat by misting a few times a week or sitting the pot on top of some pebbles in water.
