Syringa 'Andenken an Ludwig Späth'

Better known as a lilac tree or lilac plant, Syringa vulgaris 'Andenken an Ludwig Späth' is a low maintenance outdoor plant that is undemanding and easy to grow. This cultivar produces large clusters of wine-red flowers from late spring to early summer. Mid-green ovate heart-shaped leaves cover the lilac shrub, maintaining interest until autumn, when the plant enters its dormant period before bursting back to life the following spring.

Growing to a maximum height of 3-4m, lilac plants are one of the best flowering shrubs for smaller gardens and have been a favourite among British gardeners for over a century. The are renowned for reliability and produce a stunning show of flowers year after year.

The flowers are highly fragrant, particularly in the mornings and evenings, and are irresistible to butterflies, bees and other pollinators. They are popular cut flowers and last well in a vase of water, making them an attractive addition to indoor floral displays.
