Sparaxis is a collection of specially selected bulbs to bring some real zest to the garden with a variety of flower colours and intricately patterned petals. Dark green foliage spreads out from the base of the plant like a fan and provides the backdrop for the dazzling array of vibrant pinks, toasted oranges, spicy reds and wonderful whites.

Excellent for blankets of colours, Sparaxis planted in groups will create a bed of wonderful blooms with an abundance of colour. Perfect for container and pot planting, these ornamental blooms grow well in rockeries, beds and borders. Harvest the bunches of blooms as cut flowers and enjoy their aesthetic beauty.

Sparaxis are ornamental flowering perennial plants that grow from bulb-like corms. Flowers of the Sparaxis open in trumpet shapes and fan out with gently reflexed petals into dazzling star-shaped blooms. Dark green foliage is typical of these varieties of plants often appearing to spread out like a fan with lanceolate shapes that are relatively narrow.

Sparaxis offers a wide range of colour combinations with hues of red accented with blacks with golden spots, pale pinks with golden eyes fringed by deep maroons, vibrant oranges with deep reds and yellows and lovely pinks with mid-range reds. With multiple stems, Sparaxis produces bunches of blooms on each stem.

Plant Sparaxis in sunny areas and will grows best in moist, well-drained fertile soils. Sparaxis is inclined to multiply and naturalise areas where it can find suitable growth. As well as being easy to grow, Sparaxis can be planted in pots and containers or in groups in beds and borders or in rock gardens. Sparaxis looks beautiful grown in groups to create blankets of colourful blossoms.

Sparaxis is a late spring to early summer bloom that will reward onlookers with delightful colour combinations. More sensitive to colder temperatures than other ornamental flowers, Sparaxis should avoid freezing temperatures, some people plant them in the early spring and are rewarded in June and July with plentiful colours. Excellent flowerheads with sufficiently long stems to have as cut flowers and use as showy blooms in bouquets and flower arrangements.
