- Easy to grow
- Standard trained tree with clear stem and formed fruiting head
- Easy to reach for picking and pruning
- Striking form even without fruit.
Redcurrant ‘Jonkheer van Tets’ produces heavy crops of delicious large berries with a sweet flavour with a bursting enjoyable texture.
An RHS award winner this variety is popular for being a reliable grower, it provides plenty of fruit to harvest which are harvestable from early summer which you can enjoy fresh or delicious jams, jellies and puddings.
This variety has been trained to grow in a standard tree shape. The Currants grow as upright shrubs and are perfect for adding structure to mixed beds and borders, as well as for growing in kitchen gardens or allotments.
Standard formed plants have been trained over several seasons to have a single clear stem and a formed head where the fruit is produced. Very different to the normal bush versions, these will add a striking focal point in the garden or plot. They look fantastic even without fruit on. As these are at a comfortable height, there is no more bending down to trim and pick fruit. The height also reduces the susceptibility to diseases, as the improved air flow and light levels keep the plant in much healthier condition. Trim vigourous non fruiting new shoot back to the head size in July and then trim all shoots by half or to the size of head you require in winter.
