Prunus 'Spring Glow'
Prunus cerasifera Spring Glow is a decorative variety that grows as a deciduous shrub, reaching a height of about 5m and a width of about 4m. It is a nice upright bush with a round crown, that grows into a large shrub to small tree. It is littered with pink flowers from March to April and these flowers are loved by bees, bumble bees and hoverflies.
The ornamental Spring Glow flowers from February to April with very attractive and numerous pink cupped flowers. Its narrow, about 6-12 cm long, leaves have a beautiful medium green colour. The shoots display bright purple colour in spring. Its lanceolate and sawn leaves are medium green. After the blooming period, the tree is blessed with edible round fruits (peach) that are orange-red and softly hairy.
Spring Glow will thrive in any normal garden soil in sunny to partially shaded position. It prefers nutrient rich soil that is well-drained. A sunny location lets the juicy peaches ripen. It may need protection against strong winds, so choose a sheltered location in full sun.
It tolerates frost very well. The plant has a medium to low water requirement. Water regularly in summer months and allow the soil to dry in the meantime.
