Prunus 'Kiku-shidare-zakura'

Are you living in an in-city apartment and long for some colourful plants on your balcony? The Prunus ‘Kiki Shidare Zakura’ will be the perfect choice. It is small and can be grown in a container, adding a burst of colour, fun and freshness to a small outside area. If you have a small garden, it will grow into a stunning weeping, small tree, adding all year-round interest to your setting.

The Cheals Weeping Cherry tree offers a wonderful eye-catchingdisplay of double petal deep pink flowers in spring, April to May, clustering on the branches. The flowers are so dense that it becomes difficult to see the pendulous branches supporting them.

New foliage appears in a shimmering bronze colour. As the leaves mature, they turn to a deep green and hold their colour over the summer season. In autumn, the leaves offers a striking display of fiery orange and bronze, before they fall towards winter. In winter and in regions that get really cold, any snowfall enhances the tree making the branches look stunning, iced in white.

The Cheals Weeping Cherry tree is hardy and will tolerate most soil types except very wet or chalky, shallow conditions. It is tough and tolerant of pollution, making it ideal for city or suburban gardens.

Plan your garden and plant two on either side of your garden gate. Plant them along a pathway or let them grow in lovely containers on a sun-filled patio. Being a small tree, it also makes a great gift to offer to a friend or loved one on a special occasion.
