Muscari latifolium
Muscari Latifolium or Broad-leafed Grape Hyacinth is a unique perennial flowering ornamental plant with stems or spikes with racemes of densely packed bi-coloured blooms. Uppermost portion of the raceme is inhabited by powdery blue, closed blooms and the lower portion is covered with urn-shaped flowerheads deep purple-black colours. Accompanied by broad, strap-like green leaves similar to that of a tulip.
Bi-coloured and fragrant, Muscari Latifolium is easy to grow and rewards gardeners and pollinators alike in the spring season with lovely fragrant flowers, especially when planted in blankets of blooms for the best effect. Great to use at the front of beds or border or in pots, containers, in rockeries and for underplanting around trees and shrubs.
Muscari are commonly known as Grape Hyacinth and it is easy to see why from their spikes of densely packed flowerheads which resemble bunches of grapes, although they are notably not Hyacinths.
