Galanthus nivalis f. pleniflorus 'Flore Pleno'

From £12.00

Galanthus Nivalis Flore Pleno are dwarf flowering plants with fragrant, nodding double blooms of pure white colours approximately 2.5cm in length, the interior tepals are marked with a light-green squiggle towards the tips and on the interior segments there are multiple linear mid-green striations. Delicate little beauties with green, grass-like foliage.

Gorgeously intricate double blooms streaked with mid-greens, Galanthus Nivalis Flore Pleno is inclined to adapt to most locations and perfect for using at the fronts of beds and borders or in pots and containers. Pleasant honey-like perfumes are a delight for gardeners and will also attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. Galanthus Nivalis Flore Pleno is great to use for naturalising in underplanting or pots and containers to accent window ledges or patio areas.

Galanthus is a genus of small, bell-shaped blooming plants that are perennial herbaceous flowers grown from bulbs. Depending on the species, flowering occurs from before the onset of winter through the springtime season. Small statured, Galanthus produces 2-3 grass-like, linear foliage and single bell-shaped white flowerheads.

Galanthus notably does not have petals, but rather tepals with the three exterior tepals larger in size encompassing the other tepals and a three-celled central ovary which mature into seeds. Several weeks after the flowers bloom and fade, the foliage will wither and die away. Vernation is one of the single most important factors which differentiates the species and is demonstrated through the different placement of the leaves.

Plant Galanthus in full sun to partial shade in moist-well-drained soils. For further propagation, divide the plants shortly after flowering by digging out and separating the plants, allowing the leaves to fade on their own. Galanthus is typically planted at depths of 5-8cm and after being established will continue to thrive and grow for years to come.

Some of the easiest plants to grow, plant Galanthus in areas for where they can remain undisturbed and within several years the plants will self-propagate and become patches of wonderful winter and early spring flowers. Galanthus makes an excellent addition to woodland gardens and used as underplanting around deciduous shrubs and trees.
