Said to have been grown at Versailles in the reign of Louis IV, this old-established fig variety produces prolific harvests of large, exceptionally sweet fruits with succulent pink flesh. In long, hot summers it will produce two crops in a year, one in July and a second crop in September. With its big lobed leaves turning butter-yellow in autumn, it makes a very ornamental addition to the garden.
